News in Brief – Vol 6 (Oct 2021)

A big, virtual hello to all our wonderful SFAC supporters and if you are new here…welcome and a big hello to you too!💙💛

Welcome to Vol. 6 of SFAC News (brief AND beautiful…what’s not to like?)

We are so excited to share what we have been up to over the past few months…exciting zoom discussions, SFAC project plans & exclusive details of what our latest SFAC fundraising Superstars, Hannah, Nicola and Carmen have achieved!

Let’s kick things off with what CEO Dan has been doing…

He recently spoke with an incredible team of social workers and app developers at Agape Children’s Ministry in Kenya; not our usual audience mix! 📱💻

Look at all the people involved! It was a great session and we are so excited about the project they’re developing at the moment 🌱

Dan has also been talking with the National Association of Social Workers in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼

Ideas for a potential project involving practitioners and organisations to improve care and protection services for the country were discussed over zoom…we will keep you updated with any developments! We’re pleased to have social work student, Lelani, who recently completed a placement with us is from Zimbabwe supporting us on this project.

We realised recently that we talk about social work an awful lot but we don’t often explain what it actually is!  So Dan recorded a video for World Social Work Day back on March 16 explaining just what social work is and we thought it was worth another look…

The video can be found here on our Facebook page!! 🎥💙

We love seeing our team featured in international speaker line ups! 💛🎤

Founder Mick and our SFAC partner Ranjit both spoke alongside old and new friends as part of a Brazilian conference on Foster Care… 275 people attended and the recorded replay video has over 600 views…potential internet sensations in the making? Well done both for delivering such informative and inspiring contributions!👏

In contrast, sometimes SFAC work looks less like talking and more like researching, writing, planning and preparing…  Mick has been hard at work bringing an exciting new resource to life which hopes to help organisations wanting to set up foster care projects 💭

We are looking forward to releasing this document to help equip adults with the information they need so that as many children as possible have the chance to thrive.

Ever thought of using a decommissioned ambulance as a meeting venue? No? We hadn’t either until July when we caught up with two of our friends from Sepheo, an NGO in Lesotho, in their unusual office venue.  The team at Sepheo do incredible work supporting vulnerable children in the country and we are so happy to help support them with their work!

And last but certainly not least, the latest update from our SUPERSTAR #3Peaks4SFAC fundraising team!  ⛰🏃

So far their Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon efforts have raised an incredible £822.50…

Perhaps even more impressive is that the team carried on with the challenge despite far from perfect weather conditions and an unexpected turn of events…
At 06:15, they set off in clear but cold and windy weather which quickly turned into driving hail and, what felt like, gale-force winds!
There was a bit of a crunch moment on Whernside (the second of the peaks) when it wasn’t just blustery and wet, there was dense fog too.
This change meant ascending the third peak had quickly become very unsafe so the wise decision was made to complete the 26.2 mile distance closer to sea level!!

The battles through hail, wind and rain and all the aches and pains are truly, deeply appreciated… Rest up now – you’ve set an impressive standard for all those miles we’ll be covering for Mile A Day May 2022 💙

It’s not too late to show some appreciation for Hannah, Nic and Carmen’s Superstar efforts here.

We’ll be sharing more details and pictures of the challenge for you to marvel over (and perhaps be inspired by?!) very soon.

Who knows? Your next adventure could be featured here!

So that just about it!

Thank you for taking the time to read all about us… you are appreciated! 💙💛
